Aluminum mats can be refurbished many times over depending upon their condition and annual maintenance. In many cases replacing the carpet inserts is a more economical option than replacing it with a brand new aluminum entrance mat/grid. All of our mats secure carpet and other inserts with either staples or rivets on both sides of the aluminum entrance mat making replacement easy. Other mats may use glue to bond the insert into the aluminum requiring more effort and time to remove. In these cases it is potentially more expensive to remove and replace inserts with the additional labor required to work around the glue/epoxy.
Property managers, facility managers and commercial building owners can refurbish existing aluminum entrance mats at a fraction of the cost to purchase new mats. There are no special tools or highly-trained personnel required to repair and refurbish your old recessed mats, grilles or aluminum roll-up mats. Materials and labor needed to refurbish your existing recessed mat will generally cost about half the price of a new aluminum mat.
Over time, the carpet insert material wears down, becomes stained or damaged leaving an ineffective, ugly entrance mat. Refurbishing your existing aluminum entrance mat will enhance the aesthetic appeal, providing a safe, effective mat to cut cleaning costs and leaving a no trip-fall hazard danger zone.
Renovation of your existing roll-up metal mat consists of determining the correct type of replacement insert and placing an order. The carpet strip replacement material comes on a roll, generally 600 lineal feet in length. When ordering carpet replacement insert material for your refurbishment project there are several choices that need to be made:
Aluminum entrance mats generally have some type of alternating rails -- aluminum followed by a carpet-type insert and then another aluminum hinged rail. The carpet insert rail has a flat center surface with channels on either side running the length of the rail. When refurbishing your mat, you need to remove the screws, rivets, crimps, etc. from the backside of the mat that hold the carpet strips in the mat. The existing inserts are then removed, taking special care to clean the channels on either side. The metal portion of the mat should then be thoroughly cleaned/scrubbed and maintenance performed on any bent rails, etc. The new insert material can then be fed into the clean channels, reattached to the aluminum mats by rivets, etc. and replaced in your cleaned existing recessed well.
Metal roll-up mats are designed to be one of the most effective floor mat systems available. When the appropriate type and size of aluminum entrance mat is used in your building project, the mats will:
A note of caution, the insert materials come in slightly differing widths. In other words, one-size-DOES NOT fit all. Dealing with a reputable supplier who will provide samples of the different width materials so that you can actually try the material in your mats’ channel, will ensure that your refurbishing project will go smoothly. You will be pleased with your like-new high performance aluminum mat.

Aluminum entrance mats are primarily used as main entrances for pedestrian traffic. Heavy equipment during tenant moving/deliveries can cause damage to these entrance mats by excessive weight bending rails. Once the physical damage has occurred it is best to replace with new.
